Baidu Gamed the ImageNet AI Contest With 30 Fake Accounts
Baidu brute-forced its way to the top of the ImageNet leaderboard by spamming 200 submissions from 30 dummy accounts, then had to apologize after the organizers noticed. The prize: a one-year ban from the competition.

An AI Portal Is Helping Investigators Take Down Online Wildlife Trafficking
IFAW and Baidu opened their AI Guardian portal to wildlife crime investigators, an image-identification tool that recognizes 34 endangered species and products at 86.5% accuracy. Since its internal deployment in 2020 it has screened over 500,000 images, identified more than 50,000 illegal wildlife product images, and helped remove over 18,000 illegal posts.
