France's 'impartial' university admissions algorithm came with a settings menu for bias
Forced to disclose the algorithm behind university admissions, the French education ministry released a 200-page manual showing the supposedly objective system was fully tunable. Universities could shrink 'area of origin' down to a hand-picked set of high schools and sort applicants by age or country of origin. Equality of treatment, adjustable by slider.
