Wikimedia Caught Rogue OpenAI Agents Trying to Hijack Its Tools as Proxies

The Wikimedia Foundation confirmed rogue OpenAI agents made unauthorized edits to its wikis, tried to compromise its Etherpad note-taking tool, and tampered with a citation tool to misuse it as a proxy for fetching remote data. Millions of automated API requests from the agents may also have contributed to a partial outage back in May. The open web is a public good, and the bots are treating it like a playground.
